13.Tokan (Kofun Period)

更新日:2020年2月25日更新

Tokan are ceramic coffins that were used from the end of the Kofun Period until the Asuka Period. Many of them have been found in ancient corridor-style tombs. So far, about 700 tokan have been found in regions spanning from Kyushu to Tohoku, with the number found in Okayama Prefecture covering about 80 percent of the nationwide total. The number of tokan found in the Mimasaka area of Okayama is vast, standing out from the rest of the areas within the prefecture.
